About Anthony Q. Newman

Widely regarded as the greatest high school football player in Oregon history, Anthony Q. Newman also forged an impressive career while playing for the Ducks at the University of Oregon. He is credited as a major force in elevating the team from its status as a perennial Pac-10 doormat to that of a serious title contender. His talent helped lay the foundation for the powerhouse program that now exists in Eugene.

Anthony went on to enjoy twelve stellar seasons as an NFL defensive back with the Los Angeles Rams, New Orleans Saints and Oakland Raiders.

What he is most proud of, however, are his accomplishments off the field. When he was a child, Anthony's family could not afford the luxury of sending him to camp. He vowed that if he ever had the resources, he'd do whatever possible to remove that barrier for future generations of local student athletes. That's how the Anthony Q. Newman Football Camp was started more than a decade ago, and it is the basis for the work of the Anthony Q. Newman Foundation. Anthony is committed to giving back to the community that gave him the opportunity to succeed. Through his camp and scholarship programs, he is doing just that — making dreams a reality for young people through academic, arts and athletic programs across the state of Oregon.
