About Our Camps
Over a decade ago, Anthony Newman teamed up with another local hero, his good friend and fellow NFL star J.J. Birden, to offer a free football camp to Portland-area youth. The first camp at Delta Park drew only a few dozen kids, but before long, the word was out — FREE was a very good price! With appearances by other NFL stars like Jerome Bettis and Eric Allen, and hands-on instruction featuring real pro playbooks, the camp has grown by leaps and bounds. In 2006, over 1500 children attended the free camp!
Along with the Anthony Q. Newman Football Camp, we offer Camp Spirit for aspiring young cheerleaders. The camp is directed by Teri Newman, Anthony's wife and former Los Angeles Rams cheerleader. The camp was started in 2000, and last year attracted 300 youth.
Both camps are FREE — offered at absolutely no cost to you. Why? When Anthony was a kid, his family could not afford the luxury of sending him to camp. He vowed that if he ever had the resources, he'd do whatever possible to remove that barrier for future generations of local student athletes. When Anthony reached the NFL, his dream became a reality. Through his efforts with the Foundation and the free camps, he is making dreams come true for countless others as well.
